Registration, Force Requests and Q-Drop

Preparing for Registration

Guidance on navigating registration and undergraduate registration schedules can be found at Aggie One Stop. To find your specific registration time, check your Howdy account. Click on My Profile in Howdy, then look for Registration Notices. Click on this to find your registration time assignment. You can find hold information next to Registration Notices. You can schedule an appointment with an Advisor in Navigate. Be sure to choose the reason for the appointment as Pre-Registration. For more guidance on registration, please refer to the Department of Animal Science Student Handbook

Frequently Asked Questions about Registration

Why am I having problems registering for an ANSC Course?

There may be a few reasons you’re encountering obstacles, but here are some of the most common:

– To register for any 300 or 400 level ANSC class, you must currently be classified as a junior or senior. If you have completed less than 60 hours, you are classified as a sophomore. The classes that you are currently in process with are not included in determining your current classification. If you will have junior hours at the end of the Fall semester and would like to preregister for a 300 or 400 level ANSC class you will need to submit a force request.

– If you are in process with or do not have the required prerequisites for an ANSC class, you will not be able to pre-register for the class. If you will have the necessary prerequisites completed by the time the class starts, you need to submit a force request for the class. For information about the prerequisites for ANSC classes, please see the undergraduate course catalog.

– Most ANSC classes will have major and non-major sections. If you receive a major restriction error when you try to register for an ANSC class, you have chosen the incorrect section for that class. In the Class Schedule Search in Howdy, click on the class restrictions to see what majors are allowed to register for that section. You can only register for a section of the class that matches your current major. If the appropriate major section does not have any remaining seats open, do not email the professor, you need to submit a force request.

How do I submit transcripts for a prerequisite class I’m taking at another institution?

Students who have completed course work at another college or university and wish to have that credit evaluated for use on a degree plan at Texas A&M University, must provide an official transcript. Please see the Office of the Registrar for information on sending transcripts.

What if I’m having trouble registering for a course in another department?

Make sure the class has open seats and check the prerequisites and restrictions on the class by clicking the section’s course title, then Restrictions in the pop up box. Then click on Prerequisites in the pop up box. You should do this for every section of every course before contacting an Advisor. If there are no open seats in the non-ANSC courses, you must contact the department offering the course to inquire about their force request policy. Advisors in the Department of Animal Science cannot force students into non-ANSC courses.

What do I need to do to register for a class with a science lab?

Before you can register for a science lab class, you will need to complete the Lab Safety Agreement in Howdy. This can be found in the MyRecord tab.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites for all courses are listed in Howdy and the Undergraduate Course Catalog. Please contact your advisor for more information on transfer credits. If you have not completed the prerequisite for a course, you will not be granted access to register in that course.

If you submit a force request for a course for which you do not have the prerequisite, your force request will not be processed. If you are taking a prerequisite at another university or institution, and are requesting a force into the successive course, your force request will not be processed unless you can show completion of the prerequisite course during the force request time frame. We will not consider force requests for prerequisite courses in-progress at institutions outside of Texas A&M. Once you have completed the prerequisite, and can provide proof of completion (transcript with the course’s final grade), you can request an override into your desired class by contacting your advisor. An override does not enroll you in a course, but it does give you the ability to register for the course if a seat is available.

Force Request Process

Force Request Timeline: Currently Closed

Note: We do not force students into AGLS 235 or AGLS 335.

If there are no seats open in the class you want and you have the prerequisites to take the class, you will need to submit a force request. You must complete a separate request for each RWFM class. Submitting a force request does not guarantee you will be forced into your requested RWFM course(s).

Remember to include your UIN, Texas A&M University email address and phone number in the force request. If you are in process with a prerequisite or will be taking the prerequisite over the summer break, be sure to include that information in the comment section of the force request. If you would like us to drop a class if we are able to add the desired class to your schedule, please include that information in the comment section of the force request.

After submitting your request, please wait patiently. When force request decisions are made, students will contacted via email advising as to whether or not the force request has been granted. In all cases, it is your responsibility to verify your student schedule to see whether or not  you have been added to the course after your force has been approved. The priorities in which forces are allocated within each course/section are as follows:

  1. RWFM students who are graduating in the upcoming semester;
  2. Students who are non-majors that are graduating in the upcoming semester;
  3. All other RWFM students; and
  4. All other non-majors.

Each department has its own rules about forcing. For non-RWFM courses, you must contact the department offering the course to inquire about their force request policy. Advisors in the Department of Agricultural Economics cannot force students into non-RWFM courses.

Force Request Form

Q-Drop Procedures

Complete information on Q-Drops can be found in Student Rule 01. You must download and bring a completed Q-Drop Request form to your academic advisor. The form must be delivered prior to the posted Q-Drop deadline.

  • Q-drop deadlines are posted on the University’s academic calendar
  • Q’s are recorded on the student’s transcript; however, it does not affect the computation of the student’s GPR.

Withdrawing from the University

Students must follow the Academic Calendar to identify deadlines for dropping all classes using the add/drop process. If that deadline is missed, as an official withdrawal request must be submitted through the Withdrawal channel on the My Record tab within Howdy. See more details pertaining to official withdrawals below.
