Jeffrey Wiegert, Ph.D., is an Instructional Associate Professor and Swine Extension Specialist in the Department of Animal Science. He graduated with honors and a BS in Animal Science from the University of Missouri (2012) before earning an MS in Animal and Poultry Science from Virginia Tech (2015) and a Ph.D. in Animal Science from North Carolina State University (2019). While at Virginia Tech, Jeff also co-managed the university’s swine research and teaching farm, and at NC State, was employed in a staff position in swine extension.
Wiegert’s responsibilities in the department include teaching undergraduate swine production and management courses and leading statewide extension efforts to improve pig production efficiency and pork producer profitability. His applied research interests are in better understanding sow and litter interactions and identifying cost-effective methods to improve early-in-life piglet health, welfare, and growth through maternal or neonatal intervention.
