Discover the impacts your gift can make.
Scholarships
The Department of Animal Science offers more than 100 scholarships to its students yearly ranging from $250 to $2,000, totaling $125,000. The department is able to provide this substantial amount of support to the students thanks to the support given by former students and friends of the department in the form of endowments and annual monetary donations.
Endowed Graduate Fellowships
More than 120 students are pursuing master of science, master of agriculture or doctorate degrees in Animal Science, Animal Breeding or Physiology of Reproduction. Graduate scholarships and fellowships in amounts up to $30,000 per year are vital to recruiting the highest caliber students as they prepare to become future leaders in animal agriculture.
Faculty Professorships/Chairs
There are currently three faculty who hold endowed chairs and one endowed professorship in the Department of Animal Science. These funds provide a margin of excellence to support preeminent research and teaching programs.
High-Impact Experiential Learning
Students have the opportunity to engage in high impact learning experiences through internships, undergraduate research, study abroad and class field trips. These experiences are important to student success and can be supported through annual giving or endowments.
Competitive Teams
The competitive teams program at Texas A&M is rich in tradition, attracting students from across the country. This include the national award-winning Livestock Judging Team, Horse Judging Team, Wool Judging Team, Meat Judging Team and the Ranch Horse Team. By competing on these teams, students acquire work ethic, public speaking capabilities, leadership development and critical thinking skills. The teams are self-supporting and also rely on support from former judging team members and former students.
Hesby Student Atrium Fund
The Howard Hesby Student Atrium located in the heart of the Kleberg Animal and Food Sciences Center was renovated and dedicated in the fall of 2011. The new area provides a much-needed space for Animal Science students to study and network. More work is planned to complete the renovation project, which has been solely funded by gift donations.
Program Support
Gifts can be designated to support students, faculty, facilities or equipment to enhance the productivity of specific programs in the department.
Anne and Jim ’68 Sanders Scholarship Endowment
Upon his retirement in 2023, Dr. Jim Sanders and his wife, Anne, established the Anne and Jim ’68 Sanders Scholarship Endowment for a four-year scholarship to support animal science students. We encourage former students and friends of Sanders to contribute as they’re able in honor of his longtime service and dedication to the department. Donate now to the Anne and Jim ’68 Sanders Scholarship Endowment.
