B.S. Animal Science
The Department of Animal Science offers dynamic and challenging undergraduate and graduate programs that cover a broad variety of fields including animal behavior, animal biotechnology, beef cattle, dairy science, equine science, food science and technology, meat science, physiology of reproduction, sheep and goats, and swine. There are currently more than 1,300 undergraduate students pursuing a degree in animal science at Texas A&M University preparing for a career in animal science. In response to the complexity and diversity of the field, the B.S. in Animal Science program offers two unique specialization options to further tailor a student’s degree to best meet post-graduation needs. Students in this major can choose an area of focus in either:
- Science Option
- Animal Production/Industry Option

B.S. Animal Science Degree Options
Production/Industry Option
The production/industry option applies more to students seeking careers in animal production, agricultural extension work, or feed sales, and includes courses in accounting, agricultural economics, management, finance, and directed electives. Students with an interest in a specific species are encouraged to enroll in directed electives and/or disciplinary focus courses.
Science Option
The science option is intended for students who plan to attend veterinary, medical, pharmacy, law, or graduate school. In addition to the core courses in animal science, this option includes approximately five semesters of chemistry and heavily emphasizes other areas such as biology, genetics, physiology, and statistics.
