Aggie team earns first-place finish at statewide competition
A team of Texas A&M University Animal Science students won first place at the Collegiate Farm Bureau Quiz Bowl at the Texas Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Arlington on Dec. 6. The event brought together Collegiate Farm Bureau chapters from across Texas to test students’ agricultural knowledge, teamwork and communication skills.
The winning team included Tracer Rice of McGregor; Ava Dora of Iowa Park; Amanda Hoffmann of Schertz; Carlee Hoffmann of Schertz; Savay Sexton of Cost; and Luke Bauer of Red Rock. Texas A&M students participated through the university’s Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter, a student-led organization on campus.
Showcasing leadership, collaboration and agriculture knowledge
Students competed by answering questions related to Texas Farm Bureau, Texas agriculture and industry issues. The double-elimination format required quick thinking and strong collaboration, giving participants an opportunity to apply classroom concepts to real-world agricultural topics.
The competition is structured to build critical thinking, communication and decision-making skills. Faculty shared that experiences, like the quiz bowl, support the department’s focus on hands-on learning and leadership development. These student-led organization experiences help students prepare for careers that serve agriculture and rural communities.
The Texas A&M Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter earned a $3,000 prize for the first-place finish. The achievement highlights the dedication and preparation of the students and reflects the department’s commitment to developing future leaders in agriculture.
