Sigler elected to President of TQHA

Dr. Dennis Sigler

At the February 1, 2014 Annual Meeting of the Texas Quarter Horse Association in College Station, Dr. Dennis Sigler was elected as President of the organization.  TQHA represents American Quarter Horse Association members in Texas and is dedicated to the promotion of the American Quarter Horse and TQHA members, including youth, who are interested in the breeding, training, racing and exhibiting of Quarter Horses.  Sigler has served on the TQHA Board of Directors since 2007 and the Executive Board for the past 4 years.

Dr. Sigler has previously served on numerous state and national horse and agricultural commodity boards including Texas Grain and Feed Association, Stock Horse of Texas, American Stock Horse Association, Kansas Cutting Horse Association, Big Country Quarter Horse Association and Longhorn Cutting Horse Association.  He has served as president of the American Stock Horse Association and the Stock Horse of Texas Association.Sigler is a Professor and Extension Horse Specialist for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Department of Animal Science.  Dr. Sigler received his B.S. degree from Abilene Christian University, a M.S. degree from Texas Tech and Ph.D. from Texas A&M.  From 1980 to 1989 he served as leader of the equine teaching and research program and horse judging team coach at Kansas State University.  Prior to joining the faculty at Texas A&M in 2006, Dr. Sigler was employed for 16 years in the livestock feed industry as a nutritionist, and sales director.In addition to extension education activities, Dr. Sigler, conducts research and advises graduate students in the area of equine exercise science and nutrition.  Dr. Sigler has served as President of the Equine Science Society and has published numerous scientific and popular press articles.  He has served as an invited speaker at many national and state-wide meetings.  He is a member of the American Society of Animal Science and the Equine Science Society.Dr. Sigler has a lifetime of practical horse experience.  There has never been a time during his life that he or his family did not own horses.  He has trained and shown horses for a variety of events.  Dr. Sigler has been an AQHA-approved judge for over 30 years and has judged horse shows in nearly every state and in 4 foreign countries.  He is also an approved judge for the National Reined Cow Horse Association, American Stock Horse Association and previously was a judge for the National Cutting Horse Association.
