COLLEGE STATION – Caleb Boardman will join the Department of Animal Science on Dec. 1, as a lecturer and livestock judging coordinator.

Boardman will be responsible for teaching general animal science production systems and livestock evaluation classes in addition to advising and coordinating the intercollegiate livestock judging and meat animal activities. He will also assist with youth Extension and livestock judging programs and serve as a recruiter for the department.

“Texas A&M University is one of the strongest and storied judging programs in the country,” said Dr. Cliff Lamb, professor and head. “We continue to make significant strides to position ourselves as the leading institution to which all programs compare themselves.  To do this, we are excited to have Mr. Caleb Boardman returning to Texas A&M to lead our program into the future. Mr. Boardman is recognized as one of the leading judging team coordinators in the country and we are excited that he has chosen to lead our program and continue the heritage of winning, along with shaping our program to dominate for years to come.”

Since 2015, Boardman has worked at the University of Wyoming as a lecturer and livestock judging coach. While there, he led his teams to finish in the top 10 at over eighty percent of the contests they competed in and trained the first two All-Americans in UW history. In addition, he also lead the charge to establish a livestock judging camp for youth livestock judgers and had over 80 attendees from eight different states in its inaugural year.

No stranger to Texas, Boardman is a two-time graduate of Texas A&M University. He received a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness in 2012 and a master’s degree in animal science with an emphasis in ruminant nutrition and beef cattle management. While an undergraduate, Boardman was a member of the 2011 reserve national champion livestock judging team and subsequently helped coach the 2013 national champion team. Prior to his time at Texas A&M, Boardman attended Coffeyville Community College in Kansas where he was an All-American.

“My family and I are very excited for the opportunity to rejoin the Department of Animal Science and lead the livestock judging program into the future,” said Boardman. “There is a strong tradition of excellence in the program, and I look forward to continuing this tradition and working to take the program to new heights.”

Boardman is originally from Northern Wyoming where his family owns and operates a Simmental and commercial cattle operation. He and his wife, Kylie, have a 2-year-old son named Cash and are expecting twin girls in June. Boardman has judged livestock shows of all species at the county, state, and national level in 18 different states.

While he will not officially be joining the department until Dec. 2020, Boardman has already hit the ground running and has begun recruiting for the 2021 team.
