The Department of Animal Science competitive teams have been hard at work this April. This month's update includes results for the academic quadrathalon, dairy challenge, ranch horse, rodeo, horse judging, livestock judging, meat judging teams.

Meat Animal Evaluation Team

The Texas A&M Meat Judging Team competed at the National Meat Animal Evaluation contest on March 30 - April 3 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. The contest, sponsored by the American Meat Science Association, consists of three divisions, breeding animal, meats, and communications.

Horse Judging Team

The Texas A&M Horse Judging Team was named the Overall Champion Team at the National Horse Judging Team Coaches Association, NHJCTA, Spring Collegiate Sweepstakes contest in Amarillo on April 11. The team also had the reserve overall high individual as well.

This team was represented by students Brylee Thomas, Cassie Hiles, Melani Chojnacki, Eden Moffett, Dalton Regehr, Karlye Williams, David Kendrick, Camey Powers, Jamisen Capps, Emma Brunson, Ashley Froebel, Amber Potts, Delaney Sheffield and Lesley Munoz. The team was coached by coaches Sarah Schobert, Megan Miller and Anelise Wilson. Senior assistants were Hannah Vierling, Gabby Shultz, and AJ Kendrick.

Academic Quadrathalon

The Texas A&M Academic Quadrathlon Team excelled at the Southern Regional contest held by the American Society of Animal Science on April 5-6. The team achieved first place overall among the participating schools in the southern region, marking the fifth consecutive victory for the Department of Animal Science at this event.

This year's team members were Anna Cox, Aaron Strittmatter, Collin Strittmatter, and Rendyn Lamace. Dr. Sushil Paudyal served as the team's advisor, while Dr. Thomas Welsh chaperoned the team to the Western Regional contest in Arlington, Texas.

Dairy Challenge Team

The Texas A&M Dairy Challenge team traveled to Gainesville, Florida, to participate in the Intercollegiate National Dairy Challenge contest and Academy. The contest team secured third place in their group. The team members included Abby van Adrichem, Mia Coker, Greyson Evans, and Paige Richards. 

Griffin Matthys served as the student coach for the team, and Dr. Sushil Paudyal served as the team coordinator.

Ranch Horse Team

The Texas A&M Ranch Horse Team competed at the Stock Horse of Texas Guns Up! show on April 7, 2025 in Lubbock. The team brought home multiple ribbons and awards in the novice, non-pro and limited non-pro divisions. The Texas A&M Ranch Horse Team also competed in National Intercollegiate Ranch and Stock Horse Association National Show on April 14, 2025 in Amarillo. The team brought home the third overall prize as a team as well as several individual awards

Texas A&M Rodeo Team

The Texas A&M Rodeo team competed at the Trinity Valley Community College Rodeo on April 5-6, 2025 in Athens. The team placed in multiple events including Reserve Champion Steer Wrestling. Madalyn Richards won Reserve All Around Cowgirl. The team also competed at the Wharton County College Rodeo on April 11-12, 2025 in Crescent. The team competed well and Gavin French brought home the Reserve Champion buckle in bareback event.
