Texas A&M Meat Judging Team hosts successful youth camp
The Texas A&M Meat Judging Team, a competitive team in the Department of Animal Science, hosted a meat judging camp July 18-20, 2024, that brought 76 youth from across six states to Aggieland. Students learned the fundamentals of evaluation, selection, and grading of beef, pork, and lamb carcasses and cuts.
The camp, coordinated by meat judging coach Jennifer Wyle, was made possible by the many current and future meat judging team members serving as counselors for the camp, including Lauren Lee, 2024 coach; Gage Walsh, 2025 coach; and the 2026 coaches, Morgan McKinzie and Nathan Barrett. Dr. Davey Griffin and Dr. Drew Cassens were also part of the team that helped teach youth everything to know about meat judging. Ray Riley and the entire staff at the Rosenthal Meat Science Center also offered support for the camp.
