Recently, 19 Department of Animal Science students completed a 6-week course in Dairy Management, held in Clovis, New Mexico. They were part of the 50 students that attended the 14th US Dairy Education and Training Consortium from a total of 13 universities. The program, started in 2008, provides students an overview of the many facets associated with large dairy herd management. A major component of this year’s program focused on robotics and precision management associated with the dairy industry. A total of 27 students represented Texas A&M University, majoring in animal science, ag business, bio-engineering, biology and bio-medical science. Since the start of the program, 611 students have completed with about a third coming from TAMU. Students receive course credit for attending the program and counts as a production course in their degree plan. This is one of many learning opportunities in the department that gives students a chance to network while also learning industry and scientific information. Great job, Ags!
