Dr. Vogelsang teaches undergraduate courses in horse behavior and training, equine exercise physiology, equine reproduction, horse production and management and graduate courses in equine reproductive physiology and equine exercise science. She works with undergraduates in securing internships with various segments of the horse industry and supervises graduate students in the Master of Agriculture program, a two-year, post-graduate degree focusing on equine management. She also collaborates in research in equine reproduction and exercise physiology with specific interest in factors relating to reproductive efficiency in the mare including nutrition, thermal stress and regulation of the estrous cycle.
Dr. Vogelsang currently serves as advisor to the TAMU Horsemen’s Association, the Texas A&M Stock Horse Team and the Texas A&M Eventing Team. She has in the past been an Advisor to Parsons’ Mounted Calvary, a unit sponsored by the Office of the Commandant.
Professional memberships include the American Society of Animal Science, American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, the Equine Science Society – President 2005-2007, and she is a Diplomate of the American College of Animal Physiology. She is a member of the Service-Learning Faculty Fellows program. She was recognized in 2015 with the Distinguished Service Award by the Equine Science Society and has received awards at both the department and college levels for service and teaching.
Dr. Vogelsang and her husband, Stephen ’77, are long-time breeders of American Quarter Horses primarily for the ranch horse, cutting and reining venues. She is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, AQHA Marketing and Membership Committee, Texas Quarter Horse Association, Stock Horse of Texas, and American stock Horse Association.
