Aggiefest Horse Judging Workshop gives youth an opportunity to practice horse judging in a comfortable, learning environment. The workshop includes what to look for when judging performance classes and halter and how to develop effective and accurate reason presentations. English and western classes and an optional halter class are provided for youth to judge. Placings, cuts and critiques are discussed following each class with ample opportunity to address participant questions.
Equine Reproductive Management Short Course is tailored for horse owners and breeders who want to learn effective and efficient breeding practices for running a successful breeding program. This three day course is designed to familiarize participants with breeding practices and management strategies with innovative and hands on learning.
The State 4-H Horse Show has been the pinnacle of the 4-H horse project for 56 years. Every year it takes place the last full week of July and offers many opportunities to 4-H youth including up to 40 classes of competition, educational programs, scholarships, and college preparation opportunities. For 45 consecutive years, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension has trained instructors to teach the basic horsemanship skills to youth in various counties across Texas. The program has played a vital role in the improvement of riding abilities and general knowledge of the participants, advancing leadership and communication skills of the instructors, and developing a network of positive relationships throughout the state.
The Texas A&M University Horse Judging Camp is a three day event in which youth will be instructed in judging performance and conformation classes along with giving oral reasons. Camp fees include housing, food, instruction, and evening fun.
