Knippa family supports livestock judging team through hands-on giving
Gift provides critical travel support for student competitors
For Darnell ’70 and Lynette Knippa, giving back to Texas A&M focuses on meeting real, immediate needs that impact students. Their recent gift to support van rentals for the livestock judging team ensures students can travel safely and consistently to competitions across the country.
“We have donated scholarships and other things, but this type of gift affected more students than a single scholarship,” Lynette said. “We try to reach as many students as we can.”
Investing in student experience
Livestock judging requires extensive travel, and reliable transportation is key to preparing students for success. By helping cover van rental costs, the Knippas provide a practical solution that directly supports team operations.
“Well, you know those kids are doing a lot of traveling,” Darnell said. “Anything we can do to take some worries off, that’s what we want to do.”
The Knippas approach philanthropy with a focus on impact. Rather than targeting a single program, they look for opportunities where their support can benefit the greatest number of students.
“We try to find where they need,” Darnell said. “That’s the first thing you ask, where do you need funds, and who’s going to benefit the most?”
That mindset led them to the livestock judging program, where travel needs offered a clear, immediate opportunity to make a difference.
A commitment to Aggie values
Darnell Knippa, a petroleum engineering graduate and former member of the Corps of Cadets, credits Texas A&M with shaping his personal and professional development. Today, he and Lynette continue to give back in ways that support student success and strengthen the Aggie network.
Their investment reflects a belief in leadership, service, and in ensuring that future Aggies have the resources they need to succeed.
