Generous donation helps rodeo program reach $1 million endowment goal
Dr. Al Wagner ’69 Rodeo Coach Endowment Fund secures future growth
In 2022, the Dr. Al Wagner ’69 Rodeo Coach Endowment Fund launched with a $1 million capital campaign to establish a position for a full-time rodeo coach. The fund honors Al Wagner, Ph.D. ’69, who served as volunteer coach for the Texas A&M University Rodeo Team for more than three decades.
Thanks to years of generosity and a recent major gift from Roger Hanagriff, Ph.D. ’92, ’02, the fund has now reached its $1 million goal.
Hanagriff earned his master’s degree in agricultural economics from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and later completed his doctorate in agricultural education. Currently, he serves as an instructional associate professor in the Department of Animal Science and as head coach of the Texas A&M Rodeo Team.
Supporting student success
Hanagriff’s gift ensures the rodeo program will continue to thrive. Over the past two years, team members have qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, demonstrating the program’s growth and opportunity.
Beyond the arena, the team focuses on developing leaders. Guided by its slogan, “Be part of something great,” the program prepares students for success both in competition and in life.
