Department of Animal Science summer camps inspire next generation of agricultural leaders
The Texas A&M University Department of Animal Science welcomed hundreds of youth to campus this summer through a series of educational camps designed to develop future leaders in animal agriculture.
The department hosted two livestock judging camps, a meat judging camp, two horse judging camp and a lamb and goat camp, giving students the opportunity to strengthen their evaluation skills, build confidence and gain hands-on experience in a variety of animal science disciplines.
Current members of the Texas A&M livestock, meat and horse judging teams organized and taught the judging camps, providing campers with personalized instruction while sharing their experiences as collegiate competitors. The Lamb and Goat Camp was made possible through the dedication of volunteers and current and former Texas A&M students who mentored participants throughout the event.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Veterinary Science Certificate Program within the department hosted multiple veterinary science camps. These camps introduced students to careers in veterinary medicine through interactive learning experiences and hands-on activities led by veterinary professionals and educators.
Together, the camps provided young people with opportunities to explore careers in animal agriculture, develop technical skills and build lasting connections with Texas A&M students, faculty and industry leaders.
By investing in youth education and leadership development, the Department of Animal Science continues its commitment to preparing the global leaders in animal agriculture while inspiring the next generation of Aggies and agricultural professionals.
