We’re social!

For those of you who follow the Department of Animal Science Facebook page, this will be old news. But for those who do not, you are missing out! Starting in mid-May of 2017, the department kicked off an effort to revitalize our Facebook presence. So many students, future students, former students, stakeholders, and more are on Facebook, that it is important that the department is too.

“While we’ve had a social media presence for quite some time, with the guidance of Dr. Lamb, we’ve really started to put more effort into making sure we’re interacting with our audience on a daily basis,” said Maggie Tucker, communications coordinator in the department.

And quite an audience it is. At the time of publishing, the department had over 7,800 followers ranging in age from 13 to over 65 years old.

While the majority of fans reside in the US, we also have followers from more than 40 countries, which helps to broaden the department’s international reach that is essential in our quest to be the best animal science department in the world.

“We’re really making an effort to turn our page into a place where we can interact with our followers as well as provide them with current production practices, research and more,” said Tucker.

“It is our goal to ensure that we do all we can to engage our alumni, students, and stakeholders as we become the number one animal science department in the world,” said Dr. Cliff Lamb, professor and head.

“There are many platforms in which we plan to enhance our outreach and engagement, of which social media will be key.  Many may have seen an increase in activity to our Department of Animal Science (#tamuansc) Facebook page. This shift in activity has been strategic to update followers on our activities, introduce faculty and staff, and generally inform followers of the many programs, facilities, and animals that we oversee. We are proud of what we are accomplishing and want our alumni, students, and stakeholders to be equally proud of their Department of Animal Science!”
