The Texas A&M University Stock Horse team has had a successful spring. At the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo, Stock Horse team members Anissa Cervera and Lane Birkenfeld paired with Texas Aggie Rodeo team members to compete in the Collegiate Ranch Rodeo Showdown. This was a head to head competition against Texas Tech University. Together, the Stock Horse and Rodeo teams brought home the Champion title!
Next was the National Reined Cowhorse Association Collegiate Challenge in Fort Worth. Team members Morgan Moreno, Lane Birkenfeld, and Zach Schaefer represented the university in the arena against other three-man teams. Birkenfeld took home the title of Champion Limited Non Pro Collegiate rider.
At the Stock Horse of Texas Show in Abilene, the team brought home the collegiate champion title against several tough teams, with Morgan Moreno being awarded the first annual Dr. Josie Coverdale memorial scholarship.
To round out the season, the team was named national champions at the 2017 National Collegiate Stock Horse Championships in Sweetwater, Texas. Morgan Moreno was reserve all around non pro champion as well as winning the non pro pleasure category. Lane Birkenfeld was third all around non pro rider, winning the non pro reining. Rachel Sembera was third all around limited non pro rider with Kylie Reis taking eight in the same category. Macie Mayes, Bailey Barziza and Ellen Black were fourth, eighth, and ninth all around in the novice rider category, respectively.
Team members include: Captains Morgan Moren and Ellen Black, Bailey Barziza, Lane Birkenfeld, Anissa Cervera, Taylor Godwin, Macie Mayes, Kylie Reis, Zach Schaefer, Rachel Sembera and Hayley Walker. The team is coached by Paige Linne.
