LINCOLN, NEB — A fund created in honor of Dr. Russell Cross will be used to support the American Meat Science Association meat judging program and student scholarships.
The establishment of the Dr. H. Russell Cross Mentor Recognition was announced at the AMSA Reciprocal Meat Conference in June.
Keith Belk, Tommy Wheeler and Mark Miller, all former students of Cross, led the effort to raise funds for the establishment of the Dr. H. Russell Cross Mentor Recognition.
Cross has more than 40 years of management experience, holding numerous positions in government, academia, and the private sector. Cross currently holds the position of professor & head, Department of Animal Science, Texas A&M University. He most recently served as Executive Vice President for Operations and Chief of Staff to President Elsa Murano. Additionally, Cross was founder and Executive Director of both the Texas A&M Institute of Food Science and Engineering and the International HACCP Alliance. He has received numerous awards and professional and was inducted into the Meat Industry Hall of Fame in 2009. His foresight, leadership, and mentorship of countless students and peers have influenced the vision and advancement of the meat industry.
