Dr. Nancy H. Ing is associate professor in the Department of Animal Science and has a joint appointment with the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences. She is an active member of the Faculties of Genetics and Biotechnology.

Her research interests focus on understanding how hormones regulate gene expression in animal tissues. Current research projects investigate the earliest days of pregnancy in the sheep uterus and the regulation of estrogen receptor gene expression, as well as stress hormone effects on gene expression in the stallion testes.

Dr. Ing received a bachelor's in Zoology in 1979, a D.V.M. in 1984, and a doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1988, all from the University of Florida. She completed Postdoctoral work in Cell Biology in 1992 at Baylor College of Medicine. Both Ph.D and Postdoctoral mentors (R. Michael Roberts and Bert W. O'Malley, respectively) are members of the National Academy of Sciences.

In addition to teaching courses, Ing advises undergraduates and graduate students interested in independent studies in gene expression in her lab. Her research interests include the effects of steroid hormones on the sheep uterus. Her studies specifically address changes in gene regulation that make the uterus able to support embryo growth and development. Currently, she focuses on finding how estrogen up-regulates the expression of estrogen receptor gene.

Ing serves on the editorial boards of the Biology of Reproduction and Domestic Animal Endocrinology. She serves as an ad hoc and panel reviewers of competitive USDA grant proposals for Enhancing Reproductive Efficiency and for NSF grant proposals for Integrative Animal Systems. Professional memberships include the Society for the Study of Reproduction, Endocrine Society, American Society of Animal Science, Phi Beta Kappa, Gamma Sigma Delta, and Phi Zeta.
