TAMU Beef Center Herds

Angus Herd
The A&M Angus herd was established in 1907 and has continued to serve as a cornerstone to this date. In recent years genetics have been introduced to the program to help advance the quality of the herd. Concentration has been made on creating visually appealing cattle with superior performance.

Brahman Herd
The A&M Brahman herd was introduced in 1947 and has played an intricate role in the development of the commercial cow herds represented at the Beef Center.  The Brahman breed still plays a key role at the Beef Center and is represented by a strong base of purebred females that come from some of the most progressive Brahman herds in the U.S.

Composite Herd
Composite cattle comprise our commercial cowherd which serves as the backbone of the cattle programs at Texas A&M Beef Center.

Hereford Herd
The Hereford cattle were first utilized at A&M in 1907. Currently the center is establishing a core group of modern genetics to advance this breed as a component of our purebred herds. The Hereford program plays an important role in creating composite cattle for our commercial cattle program.

Simmental Herd
The A&M Simmental herd was introduced in 2001 and represents the Continental component of the breeds at the center. The foundation females for this herd represent some of the best genetics in the country.
