Dave Lunt, Ph.D.

Dr. David Lunt is Assistant Director, Professor and Associate Head of Operations. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science from Brigham Young University, a doctorate in meat science and muscle biology from Texas A&M University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
As Assistant Director of Texas AgriLife Research, Lunt assists the Deputy Director with administrative tasks including state and federal reporting, Permanent University Fund allocations, Enterprise Risk Management, and State Exceptional Items. Lunt also assists the Associate Director with corporate relations and management of intellectual property.
In his role as Associate Head of Operations, Lunt oversees all animal teaching, research and extension facilities operated by the Department of Animal Science. These facilities include the Beef Center, F&B Road Property, Freeman Arena, Horse Center, Nutrition Physiology Laboratory, O.D. Butler Animal Science Teaching, Research and Extension Center, Pearce Pavilion, Physiology Field Laboratory on Highway 50, Rosenthal Meat Science and Technology Center, Sheep and Goat Center, Swine Center, TAMU Farm, and Thomsen Animal Euthenics Center.
Previously, Lunt lived in New Mexico and Arizona where he was a partner in six ranches and three farms. Professional memberships include the American Society of Animal Science, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and Alpha Zeta.
