Mr. Jake Franke is a lecturer in the Department of Animal Science and serves as the livestock judging team coordinator. Jake received his bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science from Texas A&M in 2004 and 2008, respectively.
Jake teaches undergraduate courses in livestock evaluation, general animal science and meat animal evaluation, and assists with recruitment efforts for the Department of Animal Science and judging teams. Starting in 2010, he will begin coaching and overseeing the livestock judging team where he will take the team to 12 national contests annually. He will also oversee the team's livestock judging camps held every June, where the team will host nearly 200 4-H and FFA youth. Jake will work closely with the Texas 4-H and FFA organizations to coordinate district, area and state livestock judging contests. He is also planning the 2010 Texas A&M Livestock Judging Team Reunion to be held in the spring to honor previous livestock judging teams and the former members.
As an undergraduate student at A&M, Jake was a member of the 2003 National Champion Livestock Judging Team where he was named to the 2003 All-American Team. He was a recipient of the Senior Merit Award for the Department of Animal Science. Jake was also the public relations officer for Saddle & Sirloin and served as co-chair of the S&S Steer and Heifer Futurity. Jake began graduate school as the assistant coach to the 2004 National Champion Livestock Team and went on to coach in 2005 as well as the 2006 National Champion Livestock Judging Team. In 2006, he was named the Intercollegiate Coach of the Year.
Jake has judged numerous shows at all level and enjoys working with the youth across the state and nation. He will also be pursuing a doctorate degree in animal science along with his teaching and livestock judging team assignments.
