Dr. Todd Bilby is an associate professor and extension dairy specialist located at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Stephenville. He received his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Animal Science Production and Business with a minor in Agriculture Economics. He received his master’s degree from University of Arkansas and doctorate degree from University of Florida in animal sciences with an emphasis in reproductive physiology.
After obtaining his doctorate, Dr. Bilby joined Monsanto Dairy Business in the central valley of California where he served as an Area Market Manager, managing a dairy sales territory and providing technical expertise. In 2007, Dr. Bilby joined the faculty at The University of Arizona as an Assistant Professor and Extension Dairy Specialist. He worked in both extension and research. His research program focused on improving fertility during summer heat stress in the lactating dairy cow.
Dr. Bilby currently has both an extension and research appointment with Texas AgriLife. His extension duties include providing leadership and coordination for educational programs in dairy management via applied research, demonstrations, tours, workshops and field days. Provide technical expertise, training, and teaching materials for clientele and organizations across the state. Work both individually and as a team member in planning, executing and evaluating result demonstration tours, field days and seminars. Continually develop and/or maintain close communication strategies with the Texas dairy industry through associations, boards, cooperatives and individual producers.
Research efforts include integrating categories of cattle management, reproduction, nutrition, and heat abatement. Special emphasis is given to designing strategies to maximize profit for dairy producers. This includes, but not limited to, refining timed artificial insemination protocols, nutritional and cooling strategies to improve heat loss/abatement, and ways to improve fertility in the modern-day dairy cow.
Professional memberships include American Society of Animal Science, American Dairy Science Association, International Embryo Transfer Society, Society for the Study of Reproduction, and Gamma Sigma Delta Agriculture Honor Society.
