Youth Publications - Tips and Information for Youth
4-H and FFA programs offer opportunities for youngters to raise beef cattle either for show competition or to build their own herd.
- The first decision a youngster must make is which type of beef cattle project to show. Junior beef cattle competitions may include breeding beef heifers, market steers, commercial heifer projects, commercial steer projects and other contests focused on beef cattle at county and local levels.
- When a youth producer decides to raise a beef cattle project, he takes on a big responsibility of caring for, feeding, and training his calf. This project teaches the youngster the value of hard work and commitment to a project.
