Industry trends dictate to a large extent the methods used in managing horses. It is common knowledge that early growth and development are important in halter futurity contenders and foals that will enter race training as yearlings. Horsemen realize that the marketing potential of young horses often hinges on evidence of significant early development. But, even without the demands of marketing or competition, it is important for all foals to develop soundly to ensure their longevity and usefulness.
